Icebreaker Team Successfully Tests Mars-Prototype Drill in Dry Valleys

- The Icebreaker Mars-prototype sample acquisition system, including an automated drill and sample transfer arm, was deployed to University Valley (one of the Dry Valleys of Antarctica) and tested on 22-31 January. All project goals and milestones were met, including integrated remote operations and testing all fault modes and their recoveries at the Mars-analog site. The team returned to McMurdo on 31 January.

- Upon arriving this week at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, those Icebreaker team members without prior Antarctic experience underwent "Snowcraft I", also called "Happy Camper", a winter survival field training course. While waiting for our drill and instruments to arrive from Christchurch.
