  1. We humans have one quality that seems to be unique: we have the capacity to dream far beyond current reality, and then work to make the dream become reality.

You like to reference Star Trek; 40 years ago, having all of the information in the world at your fingertips (the Enterprise’s library computer) was a fantasy. Today everyone’s computers and wireless mobile devices have the power of the Internet behind them.

Instant, worldwide communication and the world’s knowledge in your hand. Amazing, isn’t it?

Dick Tracy’s two-way wrist TV seems so primitive somehow.

Keep on dreaming, and keep on working to make that dream a reality.

  2. the federation is made up of other aliens races… but, starting starfleet, now thats another story, just need news engines, because the ships we can build with no problems

  3. Why shouldn’t NASA lead the ultimate cooperative mash-up and create a unified space program and a real Starfleet?

    I’d enlist!

  4. I personally belive all space agencies should merge and become a single body under the direct administration of the UN/ international community. until this happens there will be no such thing as starfleet or the federation, more like Space navys and terran colonies affilated to their mother nation. which to me is a privitive but realistic vision of the future sofar.
using space exploration and knowledge as ammunition against other nations is completly deplorable.
Not to mention the extreme social problems and deficiences of humanity such as racism, war, poverty and greed. corporate greed scares the sh*t outta me and sourcing the the final frontier to self-centred businessmen to exploit it for financial gain is disgusting.
we still struggle with the SLAVE trade nicly named human trafficking, which is a growing problem which most people are blissfully unaware off. i havent actually begun to explain the reasons why we are not ready to pollute the greatest boundry of exploration.
But i do KNOW we have a LONG way to go before we as a race are evolved enough to star something as gracious as STARFLEET or the FEDERATION.

  5. Did your environmental scan include ITAR and related issues? As I see it from Canada, my Starfleet/Federation application would not be allowed to go thru because it would contain certain restricted data -)))

I am well aware of the dire need for a powerful Mission and Vision statement for the human race. I am absolutely certain that it is best to come from and lead by NASA. What I am concerned about is that it will be muted, diluted, immobilized, usurped, co-opted and eventually drowned in the sea of red ink by bureaucrats of every instance.

There is at least one “problem screw”, to paraphrase “Zen and the Art of Motocycle Maintenance”, and I do not see anyone out there or out here who can start an “intergalactic war” over it.

  6. I find it rather alarming that our astronauts may have to hitcha ride with the russians to the space station, which basically belongs to us. What if the russians decide not to take our astronauts? Maybe we could get the chinese to take them and charge it?

I think a mistake was made by ronald reagan when he stopped NASA from getting into the cmmercial satellite launching business. The french loved that one!

The russians in contrast, have had to really be creative in order to keep their space program alive, talking about budget restraints. They got into tourists industry, plane rides in mig-29s,making tv ads, etc. As a matter of fact, they are beating us at our own game: FREE ENTERPRISE!

I think NASA should be turned into a corporation, like the us postal service or attach it too the postal service, which already has the organization. Both need to be perkedright now! Get it out of the control of the taxpayer as much as possible,so it can become creative again. Add a MODULE to the SPACE STATION for TOURISTS and maybe we can keep our SHUTTLE FLEET going until NASA comes up with a REPLACEMENT!

  7. The moon and mars are dead planets. there is no reason to spend money go there. We could better spend the money studing the Earth from Space stations. It seems God did mean for the present, for man to leave Earth. It is not possible to live in space for the long term, if earth gravity can not be duplicated. We can’t travel at the speed of light or time travel to reach other stars or galaxies.Science fiction movies don’t show humans traveling or living in 0 g’s.Unless we can get help from other intellegent beings, we are wasting our money. Its possible we live on the greatest world in the universe, so why leave. we should stop destroying our world, and use our money to improve it.

  8. well,I am concerned about is that it will be muted, diluted, immobilized, usurped, co-opted and eventually drowned in the sea of red ink by bureaucrats of every instance. Great Post! Thanks for the insights and thoughts.

  10. Hello nice to meet you.
    It is Mr.Katsuragi Japanese.
    The activity of recent Nasa
    is news cheerful in Japan.

By going to the asteroid, Mars, and the moon
Please make the matter that it wants you to
put it in the ear comment.

    Remarkably in 2008
Do you know the strange affair has occurred?
In a physical conventional value feeling,
it is announced to the blog to change the
perspective by the content not said easily
and to have recognized the situation.

    I am an inventor.
The problem that it leaps a little revering
conventional physics with it hits a difficult
strange trouble is announced though the turbo
laser jet engine ([re-za-kuraiojetto]) etc. are announced.
The place of the examination be put in the
recognition field, and gain by you though are
a loath to state very content Nasa?

Actually, it considerably will be a situation
exposed to the dicey situation in the human race,
    children, and the futures.

  11. Wondering about the future of near earth orbit delivery systems.

As the shuttle quickly approaches it’s retirement I have been wondering about the various different methods currently being considered. It has struck me how much waste we expend in getting any of the current systems there and back again. I remember reading many years ago a comment by an author decrying the waste of the solid rocket boosters being returned to earth when their empty shells represented so much storage space. How is it that modular systems aren’t being considered for the replacement to the shuttle? Think of a system that would combine a detachable reentry vehicle much like the old Apollo Command Module attached to a storage container like all those shipping containers along all the coastline. It could even be designed to come apart to increase space station capacity, shipping paid. No need to consider all the costs associated with reentry and the speed of expansion would be greatly enhanced. Make it modular enough and it could even become the core of near space travel. From the International Space Station to the nearest Lagrange, from there to the Moon and so on. Just my thoughts on what is obviously a very expensive endeavor, keeping it simple.

  12. Well Today I read somewhere that Moon has got water and I guess it should be better if NASA studies moon precisely…because if there is little evidence that water is there on moon..then obviously its going to be boon for the mankind…it might become reality that someday we ll live on moon….fingers crossed

  13. Nasa is looking for human space exploration specially human space transportation. This is great news. And the most good thing is that president Obama is encouraging their effort.

  14. This is a nice article on Space and satellites..the organization should be made private so dat it works in a more organized way..

  15. The organization should make some new invention on NASA project. This is really a great news that
Nasa is looking for human space transportation.

  16. It is delightful to learn the world's leading organization dedicated to scientific experiment is going to have its new Administrator and Deputy Administrator. I hope this will mark the beginning of a new era. In the past years, NASA have done marvelous job by exploring and expanding the possibility of space and thereby enhancing our understanding of the universe and those things that were thought to be mysterious, mystical and so on. Have a bright future ahead.

  17. Well, yes future direction of NASA seems to be bright, after all there is lot of new to see as NASA 21 years ago. As now am working on the research of I have very less time to comment but yes on your blog i continuously read so do like to said it once. Yeah!! NASA will enter a phase of leading the international and commercial community in defining an integrated human exploration program that leverages all of the assets available across the community.

  18. I think a mistake was made by ronald reagan when he stopped NASA from getting into the cmmercial satellite launching business. The french loved that one!

  20. Yes!!My good wishes with you.Your dreams comes true one day.Upcoming administrator and deputy administrator will do something new human space exploration. They have new thoughts, new vision and also different way of thinking.I think NASA must adopt new technologies.Best of luck for new federation.

  21. American human spaceflight is at a turning point, and its future looks a bit shaky. The space shuttle is soon to retire. NASA needs a new direction.

  22. I think this is good step taken by Mr. Obama to incorporate private sector in space activities. It will bring positive result in many sense. Keep it up.

  27. It's great to read that Obama is playing an active part in the mobilisation of NASA initatives. As Buzz Lightyear once said “To infinity and beyond!” and that is where i think we will be going in the hopefully close future.

  28. NASA is consistently improving its position and this is what has invested it with a distinct glory which no other space research wing has ever managed to get.

  29. When there is a new invention it is always asked that is it done by Nasa??? Why?? Because nasa is the best in technology. It is only because of Nasa that we are in this level today.

  30. Really, I would like to add in this regard is that there is a good chance that American governance can unleash their funds for such space missions, since this would be a noble aspiration……and advancement!

  35. I have mixed feeling about including the private sector in space travel and exploration. On the one hand, it can lead to new technologies, less bureaucracy, and more spirit. However, it will leave us vulnerable to attacks from space by enemies. Wasn't the Reagan Star Wars program shut down? This may be a program that Obama should want to consider implementing as soon as private companies take control of space. I really believe that the biggest hurdle in all of this is transparency. How do you force a private company to be forthright in their findings, especially pertaining to alien lifeforms? But lo and behold, we need the private sector involved. It tells me a lot when the government itself is saying that they cannot go at it alone, and involvement by the private sector can make space travel and exploration more robust.

  36. I think a commercial space program is a good plan as sooner or later we will need faster from of travel and space travel is a new lucrative industry.

  39. Really interesting article. I think that just about any direction that NASA goes into is good because it spawns alot of creativity. I did a report on NASA for school and found out that there are thousands of offshoots products that are created because of NASA. But the federation sounds very cool.

  40. actually, i'm not really understand about that information

    but… great thanks for its

  44. I think that maybe we should collaborate with other nations to better focus on the goal of space. By coming together with other nations, each nation can share a financial burden which would make getting financing much easier for future space projects.

  45. I don't think anyone can even begin to guess where our space program will go next. Going to the moon was interesting yes, putting communication satellites in orbit had its use, the Hubble Telescope has certainly opened our eyes to the vastness of the universe but none of this has fired our imaginations like the prospects of space exploration as it has been imagined in fiction.

Until we make some major monumental scientific breakthroughs the barriers of the vast distances between stars still remains what some have called “Gods quarantine”.

  46. I found this to be very informative for several . Thanks for sharing.

I wonder how fast will it become available.

  52. is there any companies out there with sufficient funds to create a realistic space programme, especially in this economic climate.

  70. NASA is doing a great job. I only wish that more aspirants take up Space research as their Main stream or part time education. If they're too busy, they should look for a good online degree program.

Thank you for such a nice and informative article.

  73. Inspite of various criticisms, NASA has always been a source of envy for other research bodies globally, and rightly so. And now, taking steps to improvize, from a strategic perspective, is really commendable. Way to go NASA. Cheers!!!!!!!!!

  82. It's unfortunate that the funding for NASA has been drastically slashed. NASA needs to pursue and develop more cost-efficient space technologies. Private companies are making NASA look like the bloated, prehistoric behemoth that it is. , , and are readily available to those seeking the convenience and freedom of plastic.

  83. I think it is a tragedy that politicians are not taking the space program seriously, while other countries are bypassing us at a greater pace. I would love to see some type of moon base in the near future.

  84. Space exploration is fascinating, but I cant imagine witnessing any human settlements anywhere in outter space during my lifetime.

  96. Good insight into how trade and globalisation works together but did it mentions how fitted into the equation?

  97. Steven,
Yhis is really exciting stuff to say the least. I think we are coming closer and closer to having Space Exploration for Civilians and those outside the typical Space Explorers that we have sent in the past.

Commercial Space sounds weird when you first hear it. But it really makes perfect sense and I think it is more Real and closer than most people think it is.

The next 25 years or so will be intriguing to see how far we as a Planet can take this !! 🙂

  98. I think that NASA will enter a phase of leading the international and commercial community in defining an integrated human exploration program.

  99. Thanks a lot for the information provided and we will be waiting to see more and more entries like this….

  100. Updates from NASA is somehow relieving especially for people who are not really well-versed with planets and spaces. International partnership with the exploration is agreeable because i believe that it will be a way for countries to unite.

  101. I'm a big believer in having private companies develop low cost space travel. Competition spurs innovation and government agencies are often not that good at keeping costs low.

It would be really exciting if you were to go to the moon again, it's been a long time just circling earth and shooting robots at mars now 🙂

    Simon Byholm
    CEO and founder,

  102. It's about time Obama stimulated growth in the private sector for something as important as this.

  103. I love what President Obama is doing for Nasa. Putting some real money into the program will definitely keep us ahead of the game compare to the rest of the world, and maybe one day, it will allow human beings living in other planets if something goes wrong with ours.

  104. It might be a good idea. There's a catch, though. With the private sector in on this, there might be more interest in commercializing space rather than exploring it.

However, a visit to the moon might be nice. Hopefully, in the near future…

Thanks for the info! Always, a toast to NASA!
    ….

  105. I hope NASA makes a successful mission when they do go to mars, be it on an asteroid or space ship. They have an extremely big impact on the human race and future.

  106. Finally, an issue that I am passionate about. I have looked for information of this caliber for the last several hours. Your site is greatly appreciated. | | | | | | | | |

  107. Anything new in Nasa is exciting to me. I love to read up on all the new ventures out into space or even what they are just doing here on earth.

  108. In my opinion, NASA is just next to all human being's dream. Space travel, searching for E.T., NASA carries our childish dreams. Wish NASA more success under the new Administrator and Deputy Administrator.

  109. In my opinion Obama needs to use more of the private sector to stimulate the economy and make real progress with our space endeavours.

  110. For Obama to leverage international weight in order to achieve our goals in space is not only essential and necessary but a great idea as well.

  111. I think the American “Space” project should be placed on hold [Just like the President as implied recently] mainly because of the present financial crisis. It really does consume ALOT of financial & human resources. But with that said, it comes with a price of slow paced technological advancement. But u guys are really doing a great job. Kudos!

    Ashley,

  112. Over the past 21 years I think we have made great strides in the space program. Hopefully we can get more help from government to continue all the exploration programs.

  113. Obama will stimulate efforts within the private sector to develop and demonstrate spaceflight capabilities.

  114. I like what you said here: “The dream that we would have a united planetary human exploration of space.” I think all of us that grew up during the star trek generation feel the same way about this.

    Frank with

  115. Good insight into how trade and globalisation works together but did it mentions how it fitted into the equation?

  116. Wow wouldn't that be something if space exploration took off in our lifetime.

I aint talking about the quick trip to the moon, we are star trekkin here guys.

  117. I am intrigued by the possibility of space flight. Civilian space exploration will be held out to the rich and famous at first. Hopefully in 50 years or so it will possible for any one to go into space that has ever dreamed of it.

    Jim with

  118. I agree with Jim. Space exploration has only been limited so far to the highly affluent and has never been an extended opportunity to a huge majority. That's why I am really placing my faith on some of the points raised in this post, most especially the creation of civilian space programme. Let's hope that this current administration will make it happen.

    Cheers,

    Erin of

  119. I agree with Jim. I am really hoping that a civilian space programme will be established soon so that space exploration won't only be limited to highly affluent individuals. Thank you very much for posting this.

    Cheers,

    Erin of

  120. Space exploration definitely holds a fascination for mankind. I guess much like . Still the amount of funding that is required blows me away. I mean to say, what's the real agenda here? If you think we're going to colonize the final frontier you're dreaming my friends, but hey, at least dreams are free.
    Kev.

  121. I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

  122. I think we need to start looking further afield. I doubt we'll find much on mars to further our science.

  123. Its really interesting and exciting to think about a civilization in space. This world has gone a long way since the stone age & its growing even faster now that this concept, which would have been just an idea could actually be a reality sooner than we think!

    Dale,

  124. Yeah!! NASA will enter a phase of leading the international and commercial community in defining an integrated human exploration program that leverages all of the assets available across the community.

  132. Obama is doing for Nasa. Putting some real money into the program will definitely keep us ahead of the game compare to the rest of the world, and maybe one day, it will allow human beings living in other planets if something goes wrong with ours.
