Bright Sky Event Over Southeastern United States – June 29

Meteor across SEComposite image showing bright event located near Rosman, North Carolina.

There was a bright event seen across several Southeast states last night at 12:29:30 AM CDT (1:29:30 EDT). Based on the data we currently have, this object was not a meteor or fireball. Tracked by 5 NASA cameras in the SE, it is moving at roughly 14,500 miles per hour, which is too slow to be a meteor. As you can see in the video, it has also broken into multiple pieces, which, combined with the slow speed, indicates a possible reentry of space debris. There are over 120 eyewitness accounts on the American Meteor Society website (www.amsmeteors.org)

  1. Wasn’t there a Russian resupply ship lost in orbit recently? Does this correspond with the last known trajectory?

  2. I saw on ROKU,STARGAZER. I don’t believe it to space debris. It was on a straight track. It appeared to bump over some clouds, and go below some ,then rise above the clouds again. It appeared so suddenly, then disappear just as abruptly.

      1. Hi –
I asked Dr. Cooke your very interesting question. His response is The track appears curved because of the fisheye lens used by the camera. Once the distortion is removed in the analysis software, the path is straight.
        Thanks!

  3. that’s a nuke being shot at us or something I can tell by the seperatin. and discharge

  4. I believe I saw something something similar to that from my house in Carlsbad ca, over the ocean at around 8:39 or so. Wasn’t sure what it was , looked like two bright orange lights and they kept getting smaller and one had a flash shoot out of it right before it became to small too see. Maybe this is the same thing?

  5. Myself and 3 others saw this from Black Mountain, NC. It broke out in to several bright straight white steaks that lasted many seconds.

  6. This event has been identified as the reentry of object 6939, a Soviet ‘Blok L’ rocket stage that was launched in 1973. The final orbital data is a good match to the observed event.

  7. I saw this over Tallahassee, FL. I may have been closer to the reentry point because what I saw doesnt correlate with a straight flight path. I was running around a track and saw this out of the corner of my eye and stopped dead in my tracks. It appeared to be a rocket or ICBM at a very distant point to the west farther in the Florida Panhandle. Somehow the object moved much farther in an easterly direction while seemingly maintaining its exhaust trajectory. It was very big and very low over the ground, with the lights from the city briefly catching on a stainless body, and then headed north. It reminded me of an oversized, wingless B-29 and it appeared to be under 8,000 feet. I assumed it was some Air Force craft as Eglin and a bunch of testing grounds are located farther west.

  8. I thought NASA had powerful telescopes that can see other galaxies. Seems like they couldn’t even take a clean shot of something that could be seen by a naked eye.
    Low quality video.
It looks like it was taken by a digital camera.
I am sorry NASA but I don’t trust anything you say anymore.

  9. My children and I saw this while fishing at the very end of Gulf shores state park pier, around 12:30 am mon. (I believe)It was an unreal looking like a shooting star at first that would not go out.it then became closer and looked to separate into and appeared as a jet engine afterburner but could hear no sound to indicate .it keept going through the sky in what I believe to be a north east direction. We along with several on pier were left with mouth open. I would like for anyone who could tell me what this was to please email me my children and I really want to know .thank you
