June 8 – Diary of a Space Zucchini

Me and my “Buds” have been busy working on our mission together with our animal crewmates over the past two months.  On our mission, we have taken nearly 250,000 images, about 1/4th of that taken over the previous 11 years.  I have been faithfully making entries into my diary but due to the quantity of our image data coupled with our Ku-band radio transmission bandwidth, they have not been downlinked.  I will start downlinking my past observations over the next week or so as bandwidth allows.

Stay tuned for more chronicles from space zucchini at the start of its sprout…

Don’s blog also appears at airspacemag.com.

  6. I have an elemental question. How is the human body effected near term by exposure to space? I understand about the lack of air, extreme changes in temp, and the vacum. But how does it affect our bodies directly? Is it anything like what we see in films, the body expanding?
    blood boiling,eyes bulging?
I know this is somewhat bizare but I’m really curious and I’m sure others are as well.
So what would happen if an astronaut opened their visor while on an eva?
    Thanks,
    Peter longo

  7. Wow, I got excited when I saw this tweet about the mystery Zuch. I remember reading about it weeks or months ago and then nothing. I am curious about the results of our Zuch’s fate.
