Station Crew Continues Prep for Eighth Orbital ATK Launch

Routine—and not-so-routine—housekeeping duties continue for Expedition 53 aboard the International Space Station in preparation for an upcoming Orbital ATK 8 (OA-8) commercial launch targeted for Nov. 11.

The crewmates prepared the Permanent Multipurpose Module rack fronts to accept cargo by moving smaller items off and staging them for disposal. During OA-8 cargo operations, the items marked for disposal will be swapped with new cargo arriving aboard OA-8.

During Orbital ATK’s eighth Cygnus resupply mission, the cargo craft will make a nine-minute ascent to space and then begin a two-day trek to the space station. Upon arrival, it will captured by Canadarm2 and installed for a month-long stay. Tonight, ground teams will reboost the station using the thrusters on Progress 67, which will put it at the proper altitude to meet up with Cygnus.

The crew also spent part of the workday photo documenting their uncommon “home life” aboard the orbiting laboratory for the Canadian Space Agency study called At Home in Space. This investigation assesses the culture, values and psychosocial adaptation of astronauts to a space environment shared by multinational crews during long mission timeframes. Questionnaires answered by the crew will help answer if astronauts develop a unique, shared space culture as an adaptive strategy for handling the cultural differences they encounter in their isolated and confined environment by creating a home in space.

For Flight Engineers Mark Vande Hei and Joe Acaba of NASA, their day was punctuated by an educational downlink with students from Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio. The students were immersed in the science and technology studies being executed daily approximately 240 miles above Earth.

  1. Howdy NASA,

The International Space Station is a best example of spacecraft  of a long Space journey, therefore observation The Tachnichal history is a very important to determine a sorts of default may occur and prevent it at future spacecraft.
In generally the body of any a high technical equipment should always been protected of a mechanical vibrations such installing them over soft rubbers on the construction of The International Space Station, there should be a system on The Board of The International Space Station able to release any electrostatic charges regularly, release extra ratio of humidity regularly, regulating the required temperature to protect all nano-electro cercuits of any type of shortage contact or undesired isolation among electric contacts or even damages, therefore all cables and hardwares inside and outside any components should regularly be cleaned by a contact cleaner spray to guarantee the required conductivity among these a complex electronic circuits, also all electronic equipment on The Board of The International Space Station should been protected of exposure the Earth magnetic field via installing iron-grids to prevent generating unrequited electricity may destroy these circuits, ( Regulating humidity, temperature, mechanical stability, electrostatic is important ), also it is important to replace a new hardware with a new hardwares spare parts regularly, also to install a system of a deep freeze factory data and restart central computer regularly to prevent any data distortions due to mixing of old and new data to protect them of any damages and permits them to do their functions properly as in the factory standard measured circumstances.
Remember reducing the temperature may increase the electric conductivity of metals, this may change the electric characteristic of the integral cercuits and may destroy these electric components, where the low temperature is one of fundamentally characteristic in the space generally, while brittleness of metals increase during a low temperature, that may threatens spacecrafts a seriously,  therefore it should be there a specific system able to guarantee the operation temperature required to each components on the board of The Intentional Space Station and also spacecrafts of long space journeies either the electric or mechanic components to let them do their jobs and functions properly as should, to achieve future space tasks successfully.
Some space agencies were proud of design and build The Intentional Space Station in the space without using any sort of metals!, but this may represent one of mistakes because the absent of metals particularly from The Externally Construction of The Intentional Space Station reduce the resistance of a Cosmic Rays.
There are daily experiments and researches on the board of The Intentional Space Station to understand the effects of the zero gravity upon life of astronauts, vegetation  and several materials etc. because nobody knows the effects of the zero gravity circumstance upon material,
remember everything on the board of The International Space Station are in exposures Earth’s Gravity Particles, Earth Magnetic Field, Cosmic Rays at speed 28000 km/h, while all components and hardwares over their designed to work only at Earth’s environment circumstance which fundamentally different of space environments.
We may learn of some of mistakes or defaults to find the best how to make future spacecraft of a long Space journeies via knowing how to develop and protect components and hardwares also a softwares, of the cosmic rays via the regular observations of The Technical History of The Intentional Space Station.
    Good luck.

  2. Howdy NASA,

It’s a very important to develop the technology used specially for a huge rockets which will being launch to the planet Mars or beyond, we may improve the coolant system of the material of the burning chamber of the rocket via using the used Oxygen for the burning procedures to pass through a grid of tubes around the burning chamber and may also pass these difficulties of generating a highly pressure in these tubes
via improving the injection of Oxygen while it’s in the liquid phase via adding especial gearbox to get a higher pressure, to solve the problem of generating a high pressure during thermodynamic phase transfer of Oxygen to the gas phase and make it possible to pass these difficulties via improving the injection of Oxygen while it’s in the liquid phase as adding especial gearbox to the Oxygen injection to get the higher pressure of injection, we may solve this problem to make it possible to pass these difficulties.
Because there is extreme reduces in the temperature during thermodynamic phase transfer of the Oxygen from a liquid phase to a gas phase, it may even create a negative side effects upon the mechanical characteristics of some parts of the rocket, in the meantime it may help to absorb some of these extreme heat in the materials of the burning chamber to prevent any failure in the mechanical characteristics of these materials.
It is not condition to use all amount of the Oxygen that been used in the burning procedures, but we may use a part of that, it deserves to make experiment in this issue to record the required amount and the required force for the injection to transfer this idea to reality, it is a merely a formula of PV=NRT and it’s calculation , also may use a grid of tubes passes the Oxygen in the vessels of fuel that been used as coolant system around the burning chamber to increase the efficiency of that system in order too prevent any catastrophic consequences due to failure in the mechanical characteristics of the material of the burning chamber either due to extreme heat or pressure.
It may found some difficulties in using Oxygen as a second coolant system, which may represents as a chemical activity of Oxygen, but if we choose a stable metal such Platinum or even Iridium which have a highly melting temperature and highly chemical stability against rust, to make these tubes around the burning chamber able to do it’s function, it’s important to reduce the chemical activity of the chemical reaction between Oxygen and the material of these tubes in order to take the advantage of the thermodynamic phase transfer of Oxygen to reduce the extreme heat on the materials of the burning chamber to increase the safety of the rocket.
Because as long as the rocket is bigger, it will need a higher values of burning fuel to generate a required pressure, then the temperature on the material of the burning chamber will increase as a side effects, therefore it’s important to develop the technology of a coolant system of the material of the burning chamber.

    Good luck.
