  1. American Launches: NASA’s Commercial Crew Program is restoring the nation’s capability to launch astronauts once again from Florida’s iconic spaceport. Boeing and SpaceX plan to use hangars and launch facilities at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station to ready their spacecraft, rockets and crews for flight.

  1. NASA needs to expand the Commercial Crew project beyond just 2 companies. They had an amazing opportunity to have at least 3, but left Sierra Nevada standing with their jaws wide open. The 3 bids (from Boeing, SpaceX & Sierra Nevada) were less than the 2 bids that were awarded.

    The 2 excessive bids do not make sense, other than NASA wanted these initial contracts to work for certain, and not have them cut corners based on budget. That does make some sense. NASA cannot have these 2 fail.

    Still, NASA needs multiple contractors fighting for bids. Otherwise the competition dwindles down to Coke & Pepsi. Like the military and jet building. You basically have one company. That makes ZERO competition. Thus much higher prices – in the long run.

    NASA, on the next round of contracts, needs to expand the field. Give new life to new companies and/or new entrants into the Commercial Crew. It will most certainly help them out in the future, 10, 20 or 40 years from now. Thus help America. Thus help the world.
